When I walk into Cafe Gandolfi every morning at half past eight, with the sun slanting through the big windows, the place is coming alive. Deliveries are arriving: bread, groceries, the fishmonger’s van – and everyone is slipping easily into their routine, anticipating the first customer of the day.
